Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at an edible book contest?
From 9 to 10 a.m. books must be delivered to the Brookline Firehouse. Prizes will be awarded and presented after parade. Entries on view until 1:00 p.m. After that everyone is invited to "pig out!"
What is an edible book?
That is up to you to decide. Your entry should be book-related in some way: a title, a character, a play on food words. It is not necessary to be too technical. If it's delicious, so much the better. See entries from a 2002 Book Art festival. See entries from our own contests on the school district web site.
I have looked at the website and now am alarmed! Those books look elaborate! People are charging money!
Fear not. This is an event for people who like food and books. It's just for fun. We don't want your money. Just put your thinking caps on and cook up some crazy, wonderful ideas.
I feel much better now. What do I do next?
If you plan to make an edible book, let Mary Beth Lauer know (we want to have enough table space) by email or telephone at 610-853-5914. E-mail is best if you have a choice. You can also download an entry form on the school district web page, or the Haverford Township Day web site haverfordday.org and send it electronically. Entry forms are at the library, the township building and recreation center also.
Setup: From 9 to 10 a.m. October 3 at the Brookline Firehouse on Darby Road. Set your edible book on a table and write its title on a card. Hope for prizes.
If you want to see the edible books, they will be on display from 10 to 1 p.m. at the Brookline Firehouse on Darby Rd. Eating entries begins after 12:30 p.m.
